A Question you may be asking is, how often does Atrium run API calls to pull data into Salesforce? The answer isn't so simple however, as we don't have a "schedule" for the process to run; We update your data constantly in order to make sure that your metrics reflect the most accurate and up-to-date information, meaning you may see more login attempts in Salesforce by Atrium than you expected.
Something else to keep in mind is that the information we receive from Salesforce, whether that's new data or updated data is "paged," meaning Salesforce will compound that data into items on a page and then send us pages of data that our system has to interpret to find anything new or updated.
For example, Salesforce puts 100 separate bits of information on each page, and our API call is pulling in 500 pages because each of those pages has new information for us, so Salesforce will count that as 500 log-in attempts.
That is one example, but here are some real-world examples we've seen that help answer the question of why we are running more API calls than anticipated -
- First time we pull in data, we are pulling 100% of your Salesforce instance. That can be a lot of pages in an API call!
- You have a system in place that updates lots of objects routinely (e.g. once a week, automations update every contact in Salesforce). This is rare, but if it happens, and we say to Salesforce “What changed?: Salesforce says 100K things changed, and again we have to pull a lot.
- If you have a ton of new object creation (e.g. contacts, leads, or tasks). Some orgs create tasks for lots of things, and we are pulling all of them even if we don’t end up using them.
- Why do we pull all tasks even if we don’t use them?
- Because you can customize which tasks are pulled in, and we want to be able to have them if you want!
- Why do we pull all tasks even if we don’t use them?
There are many more examples, but this helps to paint a picture for you of what Atrium needs in order to provide you the most useful metrics for your team!
