# Smart Plan: group by field value

Organize records based on a specific data in a specific field. This means all the records with that data will be assigned to the same territory.

## Add group by field value criteria

1. [Create a Smart Plan](/v1/docs/create-a-smart-plan).
2. In the **Balancing Criteria** field, click **Add Criteria**.
3. Select **Group by field value**.
4. From the **Select Field**dropdown, select the field you want to group by.
5. Optional. Click **Create Criteria** and use the [filter builder](/v1/docs/using-filter-builder-to-create-criteria) to add conditions that filters the criteria included in the territory balancing.
6. Complete the remaining sections for Smart Plan.
7. Click **Save & Exit**.

## Group by field value examples

****Group by city****

**Scenario:** A node, Spain, is divided into three territories where you want all accounts with the shipping city as Madrid grouped in one territory.

**Configuration:**

- **Number of territories to build:** `3`
- **Select Field:** `City`
- **Set filter criteria:** `[fio_shippingCity] Equals ‘Madrid’`

**Result:** Autogenerates Spain_2 territory with all 358 records that have Madrid as the shipping city.
