# Create territory-based targets in teams (v2)

Territory-based targets are aggregate territory-level target values added to the person level in the Teams module. Instead of manually summing a person's quotas across multiple territories, create a team target that uses an assignment-based metric to automatically calculate each person's total quota based on the territories they are assigned to.

For example, if an AE is assigned to two territories, AMER East with a $500K quota and AMER West with a $300K quota, an assignment-based target in the Teams module automatically calculates their total quota as $800K.

## Before you begin

- Create a [bottom up](/plan-and-pay/docs/create-a-bottom-up-target) or [top down](/plan-and-pay/docs/create-a-top-down-target) territory target

> This configuration works best with a bottom up target, but can work with top down.
- [Assign coverage](/plan-and-pay/docs/create-coverage-assignment) for that target to applicable roles and time frames.

## Create a team target with the assignment-based metric

The target calculates each person's value by summing the territory target values from all territories they are assigned to, filtered by the roles specified in the metric. You can view assignment-based targets in the basic chart in the Teams module. Use the person filter to see targets associated with a specific individual across all their assigned territories.

1. Go to **Teams > Manage Team Targets**.
2. Select the node where you want add the territory-based target.
3. Select the team target you want to add the territory-based target to.
4. Click the **menu ⋮ > Target Details.**
5. Click **Actions > Edit target details**.
6. In the**Goal**section, drag and drop the territory-based targets you want to include.
7. Add any additional formula variables as needed (constants, other targets, or other metrics).
8. Click **Save**.
