# Create crediting rules

Complete the following processes to create a crediting rule with configured commissions event and payee details.

## Create a crediting rule

1. Log in to your Fullcast instance and select the appropriate plan.
2. Go to **Commissions > Crediting Rules**.

3. Click **New Rule.**
4. In the **New Crediting Rule**window, complete the following fields:

| Field | Description |
| --- | --- |
| **Name** | Type a name for the new crediting rule. |
| **Categories** | From the dropdown select an existing category or type a new category and press `Enter`. > [!NOTE] > Note > > You can add multiple categories as needed. Categories are tags that display next to the crediting rule in addition to the status. |
| **Plans** | From the dropdown, select one or more additional plans you want to include in the crediting rule for target quotas. > [!NOTE] > Note > > The plan you create the crediting rule in is automatically included and cannot be removed. |
| **Description** | Type a brief description for the new crediting rule. |
5. Click **Create & Edit**.

7. Optional. [Add credit and payee details](/v1/docs/create-crediting-rules#add-credit-and-payee-details).
8. Optional. [Add targets](/v1/docs/create-crediting-rules#add-targets).
9. Optional. [Add lookup fields](/v1/docs/manage-lookup-fields-in-a-crediting-rule).
10. Once you have added all the required crediting criteria, click **Save**.

### Configure commissionable events

Select the entity and the fields from which the crediting event extracts data. This builds the qualification criteria for the commissionable event.

1. On the crediting rule details page, select the **Criteria**tab.
2. Under the **Commissionable Events** section, complete the following fields:

> The available options for **Account ID Field**, **Effective Date Field**, and **Extracted Fields** populate based on which entity you select.

| Field | Description |
| --- | --- |
| **Entity** | Select the entity you want to create a crediting rule for. |
| **Account ID Field** | Select a field on the entity that links to the account (for example, `account.id` on an Opportunity). |
| **Effective Date Field** | Select a field that captures when the event occurred (`close_date` on an Opportunity, `invoicing_date` on an Invoice). This date determines the point in time to create the data snapshot. |
| **Currency Field** | Optional. Select a currency field in the transaction that contains the currency code for the currency values in the entity you select. (for example, `CurrencyIsoCode`). |
| **Extracted Fields** | Type one or more fields to extract from the triggering entity and its related objects (Account, Person, Product Line Items, Opportunity Splits) to create the data snapshot. |
| **Lookup Fields** | [Add lookup fields](/v1/docs/manage-lookup-fields-in-a-crediting-rule) as custom fields you create for additional qualification criteria for the commissionable event. The custom fields compares and pulls specified data from the custom table which is referenced in the commissionable event. |
| **Calculated Fields** | [Add formulas with calculated fields](/v1/docs/manage-calculated-fields-in-a-crediting-rule) for additional qualification criteria for the commissionable event. Use the extracted field data to build formulas that are calculated and referenced in the transactions for the crediting rule. |
| **Event Criteria** | [Use the filter builder](/v1/docs/using-filter-builder-to-create-criteria) to set the criteria that defines the commissionable event that can be associated with the compensation plan. |

### Add credit and payee details

1. Expand the **Credit & Payees** section.
2. Next to the **Payee Splits**section, click **Add**.
3. Under the **Role & Source details** section, complete the following fields:

> The **Source**you select determines what other criteria is required for the credit and payee. The following table is a guide on what information is required if that field is enabled.

| Field | Description |
| --- | --- |
| **Source** | Select where you the payee information is extracted from: - **Literal:**A specific person being credited. - **Field:**Persons based on a field from a role. - **Team:**Persons based on a team field from a role. - **Territory:**Persons based on a territory field from a role. |
| **Role** | Select the role on which the payees are based. |
| **Payee Field** > [!NOTE] > Note > > Only available if you select **Literal**or **Field**as the **Source**. | Select the field which the payee information extracted from. - If you select **Literal**, you must manually type the `userID` of the person you want to credit from the external system (Salesforce, NetSuite, and so on). |
| **Manager of** > [!NOTE] > Note > > Only available if you select **Team**as the **Source**. | Select the manager of the selected role. |
| **Split** | Select how the credit is split: - **Revenue:**Splits the credit between persons in the selected role. - **Overlay:**Persons in the selected role get the full credit amount. |
| **Split Field** | Type the amount the credit is split by based on revenue or overlay. > [!NOTE] > Note > > This field may be auto-populated based on the Source you select. |
4. Optional. In the **Additional Crediting Criteria** section, [use the filter](/v1/docs/using-filter-builder-to-create-criteria) builder to set additional criteria for payees that are added to the split.
5. Click **Add**.

### Add targets

You can add targets from any plan in Fullcast in the compensation plan calculations for quotas (for example, AE quota, SDR quota). This ensures that a point-in-time snapshot of targets is available for commissions calculations, as targets can change over time. The **Eligible Targets** section, organizes added targets by plan.

1. Under the **Eligible Targets**section, click **Add**.
2. From the **Plan**dropdown, select one or more plans you want to include targets for.

> If the plans you want to include are not available from the dropdown, you need to add them to the crediting rule. Edit the plan details to add the plans. Click the **menu ⋮ > Edit Details**next to **Save**and add plans to the **Plan** field.
3. Optional. From the **Module**dropdown, select one or more modules to filter the targets you want to include from a specific module.
4. From the target section, select the checkbox for each target you want to add.

5. Click **Add Targets**.
