# Create a compensation plan

Complete the following processes to create a compensation plan where you can configure plan components, attributes, and added formulas & variables.

## Create a compensation plan

1. Go to **Commissions > Compensation Plans**.

2. Click **New.**
3. In the **New Compensation Plan**window, complete the following fields:

| Field | Description |
| --- | --- |
| **Name** | Type a name for the new compensation plan. |
| **Categories** | From the dropdown select an existing category or type a new category and hit `Enter`. > [!NOTE] > Note > > You can add multiple categories to the compensation plan, as needed. Categories are tags that display next to the compensation plan in addition to the status. |
| **Description** | Type a brief description for the new compensation plan. |
4. Click **Create & Save**.
5. [Add components](/v1/docs/configure-compensation-plan-components#add-a-component) with [configured details](/v1/docs/configure-compensation-plan-components#configure-commission-details), [attributes](/v1/docs/configure-compensation-plan-components#add-attributes-to-a-component), and [formulas](/v1/docs/configure-compensation-plan-components#add-formulas-and-variables).
6. Once you have added all the required compensation plan components and attributes, click **Save**.
