# Connect Fullcast to Salesforce with external client app

The data exchange between Fullcast and Salesforce requires the API integration to be authenticated in the integration layer.

> [!NOTE]
> **Note**
>
> - For all new connections—the external client app is required. Connected app will no longer be supported for new connections.
> - Existing connections with the connected app will continue to be supported, however it is recommended to migrate to the external client app as soon as possible.
> - If an existing connection is broken for reasons like sandbox refresh or credential changes, you will be required to migrate to the external client app.

## Before you begin

- [Create an external client app](/v1/docs/connect-an-external-client-app) in Salesforce.

## Retrieve Salesforce URL and authentication

You must add your Salesforce instance URL, consumer key, and consumer secret in Fullcast to authenticate the external client app.

### Access the Salesforce URL

1. In Salesforce go to **Setup > Domains > Company Settings > My Domain.**
2. Copy the **Current My Domain URL** including the `https://`.

> [!NOTE]
> Note
>
> Custom domains must use `login.salesforce.com` to authorize the application. Once you have logged in and authorized access, the instance URL will be updated.

### Access the consumer key and secret

1. In Salesforce, go to **Settings > Apps > External Client Apps > External Client App Manager**.
2. Find and select **Fullcast.**
3. Select the **Settings**tab.
4. Expand the **OAuth Settings** section.
5. Click **Consumer Key and Secret** and authenticate your credentials.
6. On the **Consumer Details** page, click **Copy**under the respective section to copy the **Consumer Key** and **Consumer Secret**.

> [!WARNING]
> Tip
>
> Before you access the **Connected App Settings**in Fullcast, copy and paste the Salesforce URL, consumer key, and consumer secret in a notepad, or keep separate tabs open to easily access when you need to copy the information to Fullcast.

## Authenticate the external client app

The external client app allows Fullcast to read Salesforce metadata, which enables the ability to manage the data within Fullcast.

1. In Fullcast, go to **Settings > Policies**.

2. In the **Connected App Settings** section, complete the following fields:

| Field | Action |
| --- | --- |
| **Instance Url** | Copy and paste your Salesforce instance URL. |
| **Consumer Key** | Copy and paste the Salesforce consumer key. |
| **Consumer Secret** | Copy and paste the Salesforce consumer secret. |
3. Click **Save**.
4. Click the **click here to authorize** option.

> [!NOTE]
> Note
>
> You will be redirected to Salesforce to authenticate your credentials to authorize the external client app.
5. In Salesforce, complete the authentication when prompted.

> [!NOTE]
> Note
>
> You will be prompted two separate times to authenticate your credentials (the app will redirect to Salesforce twice and then back to Fullcast). Each authentication authorizes different parts of the connection—the first enables standard UI integration by authorizing Fullcast to read SFDC metadata, the second authorizes the data exchange between Fullcast and Salesforce via the bulk API. Ensure you complete both authorizations.
6. You will be redirected back to Fullcast, click **Validate**.
7. Click **Save**.

> [!NOTE]
> Note
>
> After you authenticate, the message “please get in touch with your administrator” displays until you [run the first import job](/v1/docs/import-jobs#running-the-first-import).
8. Go to **Settings > Export-Import** to check that the connections are successful.![Example of successful connection.](https://cdn.document360.io/369efcf7-66f9-4f6b-9d45-9ca24a5b06cf/Images/Documentation/image(281).png)
